El Chaparral – October 2018

Well played Mike – 38 points did the trick !

Another Super Day for Golf in the Sun at El Chaparral

Once again forecasts of rain proved worrying prior to our golf day at El Chaparral yesterday, but once again (remember we had these worries at Santa Clara last month also) the day was an absolute delight with the sun giving a great backdrop for many 30 plus stableford rounds.

Big Frank sneaks into the lead in the “Bermuda Race” !

El Chaparral also gave us another twist in the “Race to Cambridge Beaches, Bermuda” league with dark horse Frank Ammar sneaking into the lead with a super 35 point round giving him a place in the prizes, without the extra cut which comes with the first three positions on each golf day (very smart Frank !).  So Frank now leads the league by 3 clear points from Ana Geisterfer and Liam Butler, with others lurking if he does not add to his lead next month at Finca Cortesin.

The “118 Race to Fairplay” League looks equally tight, with Phil Loughton leading the way by just a point from Frank (again) and Marie, so once again all to play for over the final two rounds at Finca and the El Paraiso charity day on the 2nd December.

Yesterday’s winner was newcomer Mike Chappels who shot a great round of 38 points.  Many congratulations go to Mike as whilst the conditions and weather were favourable, El Chaparral is a course that does not take prisoners.  Coming in second and third respectively were Sammy Johnston (winning two green fees and a buggy voucher to come back and do it all over again), who is also now in a good position in both leagues and, Mark Squire (who will be visiting Benahavis’s No 1 restaurant, Amigos, to spend his €100.00 voucher) both with super efforts of 36 points with Sammy prevailing by virtue of his lower handicap.

Steve Boyle won the men’s nearest the pin prize with a great shot on the 2nd hole, while in the ladies section Susann Cook actually hit the pin with her shot on the 16th,

Wow – So close to hole in one Susann !

leaving her with mixed emotions of missing out on the hole in one, but still winning the prize of some delicious wines so kindly donated by the Bodegon Wine Gallery, in Benahavis.

As always, there were many reasons to thank a lot of people, without whom these days just would not be possible, so special thanks go to all of our sponsors who come up with wonderful prizes on each golf day, these being:-

Blevins Franks, Estepona

Ibex Insurance, Benavista

Amigos Restaurant, Benhavis

Bodegon Wine Gallery, Benahavis

Fairplay Resort and Spa, Benalup

Cambridge Beaches Resort and Spa, Bermuda

Leon guesses right in the charity “blobs” sweep !

Thanks are also very much in order for Domingo, Cecilia, Marga and all of the team at El Chaparral for making us feel at home and for catering for our big group.

So what next ?

We now look forward with much anticipation to our final two golf days of the year at Finca Cortesin on the 10th November and El Paraiso on the 2nd November.  Sandwiched between the two is our trip to Costa Ballena for the Golf in the Sun Four Ball Winter Cup, so generously sponsored by Pat and Monty at The Marbella Golf Academy.

We are expecting a big turnout for all of these golfing events so if you want to join us don’t delay, get your name down NOW.

And of course, as always, if you want to be on the winners podium at any of these golfing gems you will have to………….”Keep ’em down the middle”.

Best regards,

B and M.
