Santa Clara – September 2018

Congratulations on a great round Liam !

The Rain Holds off for more Big Scores at Santa Clara

With the very hot summer months coming to an end we (or at least us golfers) rejoice that the roads and restaurants are less busy but, unfortunately it ends the guaranteed sun and no rain.  With a downpour the day before our golf day at Santa Clara we reached for the umbrellas, but hey, we needn’t have bothered because despite many clouds hovering overhead and the odd clap of thunder, our golf day at beautiful Santa Clara escaped the wet stuff and produced some good scores to boot.

Well done Sandra – Enjoy Amigos !

How different it was from last years outing at the same venue when a plethora of scores in the 30’s and 40’s made for many whoops and gasp’s when the scores were announced after golf an a beautiful sunny spring day.

One guy who was preying more than most that the rain held off as the day went on was eventual winner, Liam Butler, as he sank birdie after birdie (5 in all) in his winning round of 39 points off his 6 handicap. Well played Liam and many congratulations on a stunning round of golf.

Liam’s great round also makes interesting reading for the “Race to Cambridge Beaches, Bermuda” league with both he and Ana Geisterfer sitting at the top of the pile with 166 points each.

Likewise in the “118 Race to Fairplay” league where Alison Marshall, Phil Loughton and Frank Ammar are all equal with 8 points apiece.  So all to play for in the final three outings of the year.

Great shot Rita – Don’t drink all of the wine at once !

In second and third places were newcomer Carl Johan Valikangas, winning a voucher for two green fees and a buggy to come back and do it all over again, and Sandra Bernet (great to see another lady gracing the podium) delighted to take her €100.00 meal voucher to Benahavis’s No 1 restaurant Amigos, with Carl edging the 2nd prize by virtue of his lower handicap.

Nearest the pins were reserved for Liam, once again, with a shot to a couple of meters on the tricky 2nd, while Rita Vauthier prevailed in the ladies with a very close effort on the 15th. Congratulations to both and take your time drinking that lovely wine so kindly donated by The Bodegon Wine Gallery, in Benahavis.

There were many thank you’s on the day.  As on each and every Golf in the Sun Golf Day we reserve special thanks for all of our valued sponsors who provide many great prizes, so a big round of applause was in order for:-

Blevins Franks

Ibex Insurance

Amigos Restaurant

Bodegon Wine Club

Fairplay Resort and Spa

Cambridge Beaches Resort and Spa, Bermuda

Lena wins a TV from The Experience Group !

And a very special thank you to Alan James, of The Experience Group, our main sponsor on the day for supporting us over many years now.

Thanks were also in order for Ignacio, Reyes and all of the team at Santa Clara for inviting us to play their course and royally looking after us both on and off the course.

So we move on to our next golf day which will be at the tricky El Chaparral on the 27th October quickly followed by the much anticipated outing at the wonderful Finca Cortesin on 10th November.  Both will be 9.30 shotgun starts at the cost of €75.00 to (El Chaparral) and €160.00 (Finca Cortesin) which once again will include golf, buggy, picnic lunch and great prizes. We expect another big turnout for both of these golf days so, to avoid disappointment, make sure you get your name down early.

Ah – The 19th Hole !

And of course if you want to at the prize table at El Chaperral or Finca Cortesin you will have to…………..”Keep ‘em down the middle !”.

Best regards,

Barry and Marie.
