Alcaidesa Links – July 2018

Well played Simon (it was well overdue !)

The High Scoring Continues at Alcaidesa

After the opening of the scoring floodgates at La Cala last month there were many high scores once again at the beautifully scenic Alcaidesa Links at the weekend, and to prove it we had an all time low charity “blobs” average of less than 3 per hole.

OK, OK, the conditions were pretty perfect.  A hot sunny day with almost no wind (a very rare occurrence in this part of the world) but hey, you have still got to get the ball in that little hole 18 times within the limit that your handicap allows !  And quite a few did that on Sunday.

Great round Petter 2 under gross is not bad around Alcaidesa !

So congratulations are in order for all of our players on the day, and of course especially for Simon Ness who shot his best Golf in the Sun score ever with 40 points.  It is always a little more pleasing for us when a regular puts it together on one or our tournament outings, so well done Simon.

Likewise our father and son newcomers Arne and Petter Enger, from Norway, playing off handicaps of 4 and +2 respectively took 2nd and 3rd prizes with scores of 38 and 37 points (which in gross scoring was 2 over and 3 under par) so again a couple of very special rounds of golf and a three cheers for our new members on their Golf in the Sun debut’s.

Ana Geisterfer retains her position at the top of the “Race to Cambridge Beaches in Bermuda” League, but only holds on by a point from Marie, so much to look forward to in the last four tournaments of the year, and by the way there are a few “dark horses” lurking who have yet to play their first 5 qualifying rounds.  So watch this space…..

Likewise, the “118 Race to Fairplay” kicked off again at Alcaidesa with  no less than 11 players scoring 5 or more points on holes 1 and 18, so once again, let battle commence for the chance to win a wonderful trip to Fairplay for the lucky winner which will be announced at El Paraiso in December.

Nearest the pins on the day were reserved for Steve Boyle in the men’s comp

Great shot Sari. And don’t drink that wine to quickly !

and we are delighted also for Sari Harilainen, on only her second outing to win the ladies NTP.  So well done to both and don’t drink that wine, so generously donated by The Bodegon Gallery, in Benahavis, too quickly.

Obviously the day was, once again, a huge success and much of that is down to the efficiency of the staff at Alcaidesa, so a big thank you to Ana, Sylvia and all of the team at Alcaidesa for making sure everything worked like clockwork for our umpteenth visit to Alcaidesa in the last 9 years.

Thanks are also reserved for our valued sponsors who always go the extra mile to make sure we have a prize table full of super gifts, not just for the winners, but for the lucky golfers who get picked at random for a welcome little goodie.

So special thanks to:-

So what is happening for the rest of the summer ?

Well basically “Summer Madness” is happening !

A special thanks to the Ibex girls for the welcome drinks on the 10th tee !

Our Summer Madness Golf Day’s are our way of thanking both the golf clubs for giving us such great rates for our discount cardholders, and to our discount cardholders for supporting us over the years.  We negotiate a great low season rate with the courses, which generally includes lunch and drink, we all put in €5.00 into the pot and pay out the winners (we normally play a team format) at dinner !  A very civilised way to spend a summer Saturday day in the Andalusia sunshine.  The only stipulation we make is that all players must be a Golf in the Sun Discount cardholder, or if are not already are prepared to buy their card on the day.

So we move on to our next golf day which will be another big scoring opportunity at Santa Clara.  This will be a 9.00 shotgun start on Sunday 9th September at the cost of just €70.00 to include golf, buggy, picnic lunch and great prizes.  We expect another big turnout for this one so to avoid disappointment make sure you get your name down early.

And of course if you want to at the prize table at Santa Clara or any of our “Summer Madness” days you will have to…………..”Keep ‘em down the middle !”.

Best regards,

Barry and Marie.
