Golf in the Sun Rules

It is certainly not our intention of making our Golf in the Sun Golf Days anything other than fun days where we can play some golf, meet new friends (or play with old friends), and enjoy the Andalusian sunshine. But, for good order, we need to set some rules, which most of you are familiar with anyway.

So here are our Golf in the Sun rules:

Handicap Rules

  • Shots will be deducted as follows throughout a 12 months Season on all Golf in the Sun Golf Days.
  • Players handicaps shall be cut for every stableford point over 36 on any Golf in the Sun Golf Day by the following:

    Handicap               Cut By

    0 – 5

    6 – 12

    13 – 20

    21 – 28

    29 – 36

    0.1

    0.2

    0.4

    0.5

    0.6

Any player winning a Golf in the Sun Golf Day will automatically be cut by 1 shot additional to above. Second place will be cut by 0.5 and third place will be cut by 0.2.

  • Any player scoring less than 32 points on a Golf in the Sun Golf Day will receive 0.1 shot back. Scoring less than 26 points will receive 0.2 shots back and scoring less than 16 points will receive 0.5 shots back.
  • The above scoring will apply on normal standard scratch days. If conditions are such that all players on the day shoot well below average then the points scale will be adjusted downwards.
  • Maximum handicap shall be 28 (Men) or 36 (Ladies) with all handicaps being rounded up (i.e. a handicap of 15.5 shall count as 16).
  • If, on any Golf in the Sun Golf Day a player does not hand in their scorecard then they shall be given a nominal score of 10 points with no handicap change.
  • It is any players responsibility to make us aware of any downward changes in their Spanish Golf Federation/Congu/Society verified handicaps before playing on any Golf in the Sun Golf Day.  Upward changes in players handicaps throughout any single year will be as the above and not as Spanish Golf Federation/Congu/Society changes.  Any player will be cut retrospectively (and this can be directly after any Golf in the Sun round of golf) if it becomes known they have played off an incorrect high handicap. In the event of a dispute the most recently adjusted Spanish Federation/Congu/Society verified handicap shall be used.  The organisers decision shall be final in this regard.
  • General Golf in the Sun Rules
  • All matches shall be played to the rules as approved by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, with such local rules that apply at The Golf Club where the match is played, and individual Golf in the Sun rules applicable on the day.
  • All Tournament Golf Days shall be full handicap stableford format.
  • Any prizes on Golf in the Sun Golf Days will be for members only.
  • Any single player will only be eligible to win one prize on a golf day. Should a winning player be eligible for a second prize in any category, then the 2nd player in that category will become eligible for the prize. This shall be the case in all categories on any golf day.
  • In the event of a draw the player with the lower handicap shall be deemed the winner, likewise for second and third places.
  • Winter rules shall apply on all Golf in the Sun Golf Days.
  • Any player not completing a full 18 holes on any Golf in the Sun Golf Day will relinquish their entitlement to any prizes on the day and will be scored with zero points without handicap change.
  • All Golf in the Sun players shall be responsible for their own handicap (if, for any reason, the allocated score card shows an incorrect handicap it is the players responsibility to change it accordingly).
  • Under no circumstances will a “Gimme” be accepted on any Golf in the Sun Golf Day (if it is close enough to pick up it is close enough to putt out !).
  • Members shall be allowed to bring bring guests and will be held responsible for both their guest’s handicap and general behavior.
  • Golf in the Sun must be notified of any cancellations 48 hours prior to first tee off on any golf day. Failure to notify either Barry or Marie within this time will result in the member being liable for the full green fee applicable on the day.
