Golf and Music are the Key for Another Successful Trip to Sevilla

For the 2nd year running we made the trip to Sevilla last week and as last years trip (as always on Golf in the Sun Away Trips) it was a lot of fun.

You could have told me Laurie !

We will come to the golf in a mo, but how could you not laugh at the sight of Paddy McGowan driving his golf buggy up the ramp (built as an easy walk for golfers after their round to retire to the 19th hole to have a drink and a sandwich) to be greeted by the astonished faces of diners on the first day, or my attempts to disguise my overweight body by trying on a tee shirt in the Jewish Quarter of Sevilla’s Old Town by sneaking around the back of the shop, only to find out that I was being shown to everyone’s amusement on the security camera in the main shopping area ! 

The mix of golf on a fabulous golf course, and a guided tour of the beautiful city of Sevilla has been a huge success on both occasions.  The Green Suites Hotel and their quaint Green Suites Restaurant just across the street form the backbone of the trip, but once again the golf course was the star.  It was a pleasure to play this gem of a course which is invariably always ranked in the top five in Spain.

Winners on the first day’s Texas Shambles was Geoff, Marie, yours truly and wildcard Paddy with a very creditable 83 points beating Ian, Sietse, Laurie and Alain into second place by just a single point.  Unlucky guys, being the golfing hosts we tried as hard as possible not to win but Geoff and Paddy had other ideas !

The second days four ball better ball was won by Las Brisas members Bent and Barbara with 37 points on a very tricky windy day.   Well done to them on their victory.  They just eclipsed Alain and Geoff and Laurie and wild card Annick into 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Nearest the pins on day two were won by Barbara hitting a great shot over the water on the 3rd, and Andre who hit a shot to 6 meters on the precarious 11th hole.

Touring the city of Sevilla was, once again, a major success.  If there is a more beautiful city in Spain then I am yet to see it.  Our guide Christian’s genuine enthusiasm and infinite knowledge of his workplace, coupled with a light sprinkling of humor was a delight, as we all ended the tour with a much fuller insight into what this great city is all about.   

We danced the night away to a combination of music choices on the final nights prize giving dinner (isn’t Spotify great that it enables either unanimously acceptable tracks, or the thumbs down “suck” songs instantly) as we all chipped in with our favourite tracks !  Even Rene did not walk away as we told him not to, and the surprise duo of Peter(‘s) and Lee were “Welcomed Home” (must confess I had to look that one up !!).   

Special thanks are in order for Real Sevilla Golf Manager Gonzalo, for inviting us to play his wonderful course, Arturo the Green Suites Manager, and a special mention is in order for Jose, in the restaurant, for looking after our every whim at breakfast and dinner.

So, all in all another successful outing.  We look forward to our next away trip which is only a month away, when the Northener’s do battle against the South team once again in our Ryder Cup Trip to the Fairplay Golf and Spa Resort, in Benalup.  If you have enjoyed Sevilla, are around in October and maybe fancy this one, then we still have a few places available.
